Mitchell J. Kavanagh

Education

Mr. Kavanagh earned his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in 2019. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida in 2015. He later received his Master of Public Administration from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2020.

Bar Admissions & Associations

Mr. Kavanagh was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2019 and the Illinois Bar in 2020. He is also admitted to practice before the United State District Court for the Central District of Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, as well as the Whiteside County and Lee County Bar Associations.

Experience & Community Connections

Mr. Kavanagh is a native of Peoria, Illinois, where he practiced at Heyl, Royster, Voelker, & Allen, P.C. prior to joining WMPJ in January 2024. He now resides in Sterling with is wife, Allie (née Fassler), a Sterling native, and their cat, Tommy. Mr. Kavanagh practices in both the Firm’s Sterling and Dixon Offices.

Committed to both his clients and communities he serves, Mr. Kavanagh is an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. He is also a Third-Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, where he is Grand Knight Emeritus of Council #12407. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of Rock River Hospice & Home and formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Peoria.

Outside of the Office, Mr. Kavanagh enjoys exploring the sights and sounds of the surrounding communities with his wife, supporting his favorite sports teams – the Florida Gators, Michigan State Spartans, FGCU Eagles, and several professional New York favorites – and spending time with a good novel.

Although not directly related to his colleague, John Kavanagh, Mr. Kavanagh appreciates the coincidence of having the Kavanagh name – and the history and spirit of Clan Kavanagh – represented more than once at WMPJ.
